Why sports injury insurance is becoming more popular in Australia
Aussies love sport.
Over 40% of us participate in sports every week, but it comes at a cost, with over 65,000 hospitalisations in 2020-21.
Aussies spend around $29.8 billion in out-of-pocket medical expenses each year. Ouch.
Sports insurance eases the financial pain of injuries.
Sport is great for your physical and mental health, and if you’re playing sport with Flip activated and get an injury that we cover, we give you a set cash payout within a few days for eligible claims.
Which is the best sports injury insurance for you?
We can’t give you financial advice. It’s up to you to decide whether Flip is the right fit for you. We highly recommend you read our PDS to help make that decision (don’t worry, we’ve tried our best to keep it short and simple).
With Flip, you can get cover starting from $7 a day. You'll get cash payouts for eligible accidental injuries that happen whilst you're covered (up to $50,000 on most products and up to $70,000 under Flip Roaming).
What Flip users are saying
Flip it on when you need it, flip it off when you don’t.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Flip’s on-demand accidental injury insurance?
It is a type of personal insurance that provides cover if you have an injury from an accident. Flip has a range of accidental injury insurance products that offer cash payouts for eligible accidental injuries that happen whilst you're covered. There are no waiting periods and no cancellation fees. You can use your cash however you like, whether it’s on medical costs that aren’t covered by your insurance, Ubers to your appointments, or getting a babysitter or food delivery while you’re out of action. Whatever works for you.
My Flip accidental injury insurance wasn’t turned on at the time of my accident. Can I claim?
No. With Flip accidental injury insurance, you’re covered for a range of accidental injuries that happen while your insurance is active.
This means you’re not covered for anything that happens before your insurance starts or after it ends.
To see when your insurance starts or ends, head to your Flip Dashboard and look for your Certificate of Insurance.
Do you cover extreme sports?
When you have an active Flip Active, Flip Kids or Flip Roaming policy, you or your child are covered for almost any sport, hobby or activity (except motorcycling) and even extreme sports. Check the PDS for more detail.
Is Flip Roaming a type of travel insurance?
No. Flip Roaming is different from commonly available forms of travel insurance because it covers you for accidental injuries only. While it provides cover for the costs of overseas medical care you receive, it also pays you a set amount based on the severity of the injury you get. Some people use Flip Roaming alongside travel insurance for extra protection, if they are doing something not covered by their travel insurance. Read our PDS to see if Flip is right for you.
Does Flip cover professional athletes?
Yes, we welcome weekend warriors and professionals alike when they want personal sports insurance for general training, event days or competitions in a range of countries.
If I buy a Flip product, am I (or my kids) only covered for injuries that happen at sporting events?
No, when your insurance is active, you’re covered for accidental injuries in all sorts of situations, even when jumping out of bed.
