When we launched Flip Insurance, we had one mission. To create insurance people love by daring to be different

Now, for the second year in a row, we’ve been recognised with the WeMoney Life Insurance Innovation Of The Year Award

But what makes Flip so special? Let’s dive into the reasons why we’ve been able to stand out.

A fresh approach to insurance

Insurance hasn’t always had the best reputation. It’s often seen as complex, inflexible and disconnected from the everyday lives of customers. We set out to change that. Our short-term, on-demand coverage model means you're only covered when you need it. Whether you’re hitting the slopes for the weekend or heading overseas for an adventure, Flip adapts to your lifestyle, not the other way around.

An industry ripe for disruption

Traditional insurance can feel like a one-size-fits-all approach. By offering a product that provides cover for adventurous activities and can be turned on and off as needed, we’ve made insurance more relevant and accessible.

This flexibility caught the eye of the WeMoney judge John Solvander, Director of Media Engagement from Media Stable.

‘What stood out for me was Flip’s disruptive approach to insurance,’ John shares. ‘Its ability to offer flexible, short-term cover was one I haven’t seen before and it’s a refreshing departure from traditional life insurance models. I think they’ve tapped into an unmet need, making them a deserving winner.’

Innovations that put you first

Customer feedback is our biggest source of insight and inspiration.

‘We spend a lot of time trying to understand our customers and how and why they are interacting with us. We always look at solving problems outside of how insurance companies would traditionally solve them.’
Sofia Lemaitre, Head of Insurance, Flip Insurance

We launched Flip Kids based on customer requests, plus we recently revamped our accidental injury benefits to ensure they’re more aligned with the severity of injuries, making our coverage even more relevant.

On top of that, we launched Flip Roaming which provides cover for accidental injuries overseas—perfect for those high-risk activities that standard travel insurance might not cover.

Back-to-back wins: what that means for you

Winning the WeMoney innovation award for two consecutive years is amazing recognition for our team. ‘It tells us that the work that we are doing matters, and is making a difference to active Australians,’ says Sofia.

Awards judge John says Flip’s success is a bonus for customers.

‘Flip has shown that it’s not just a one-time disruptor. Winning this award for two consecutive years highlights their dedication to pushing the boundaries and setting new standards in the insurance industry, which can only be good for consumers.’

We’re proud to be different, and we’re even prouder to see that difference being celebrated. But this is just the beginning. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve and to bring you even better products that fit your lifestyle.

Looking ahead: the future is bright

So, what’s next for Flip? We asked Sofia, our Head of Insurance, for a behind-the-scenes preview of what’s in the pipeline.

‘We’re working on enhancing the user experience through our mobile app, making it easier than ever to get the coverage you need or to make claims,’ says Sofia. ‘We’re also exploring new ways to support active lifestyles, whether it’s through covering sports equipment, supporting seasonal activities or offering benefits that help you when you’re unable to work due to an injury. The future of insurance is flexible, customer-focused, and innovative—and we’re excited to be leading the charge.’

If you have any ideas for our next big innovation, we’d love to hear from you. Drop us an email at help@getflip.com.au and let’s innovate together to build insurance that’s a perfect fit for your lifestyle.
