A large group of athletes

The Noosa Tri has wrapped for its 40th year, with over 13,000 competitors flocking to the iconic beachside course to experience the world’s biggest Olympic distance triathlon. We were stoked to be there soaking up the magical atmosphere and offering athletes protection and peace of mind against accidental injury.

Why Flip and Noosa Tri are a winning team

The best athletes and the largest competitor field bring their A-game to the week-long triathlon festivities at Noosa. There are events to suit everyone from professional athletes to weekend warriors to kids. Everyone is pushing hard to achieve their personal goals and, as with any sporting activity, there’s always a chance of injury.

Noosa Tri and Flip care deeply about athlete wellbeing so we’ve joined forces for the second year in a row. We offered special race deals for Flip’s accidental injury insurance so every athlete had the chance to race hard knowing they had cover for a range of eligible accidental injuries. Fortunately there were no major incidents, but if there was, athletes who took up our offer could have received up to $50,000 in cash payouts to support their recovery, depending on the severity of the injury.

What went down at Noosa Tri

It was loads of fun meeting so many people at the Noosa Tri and sharing their joy in getting out there and enjoying life’s moments. We popped up our augmented reality experience and dished out Flip branded goodies like canned water, sweat towels, drink bottles and Band-Aid packs.

Survey highlights

We asked almost 400 people at Noosa Tri about participating in triathlons and injury insurance. We found:

  • 61% of survey participants would increase their participation at sporting events if Accidental Injury Insurance cover was included as part of their ticket; and
  • 60% attended two or more events like Noosa Tri every year.

Burning questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we were asked about Flip Insurance over the course of the Noosa Tri. We hope the answers are helpful for you too.

Should I just use it on race day or should I use it for training too?

Flip was designed to suit your lifestyle, whatever works for you. Our customers have told us they use Flip when they feel most at risk of injury, and that might be on race day, when they’re training for an event or for a whole season. As long as you buy Flip before you have an accidental injury, you’ll have cover in case something goes wrong.

Do you cover my bike?

Bikes can be EXPENSIVE, and often they can cost more than a car so we totally understand that you want extra cover. If you get an injury that we cover while you’re riding and your bike suffers some damage too, you can use your payout to fix or replace it (you can use your payout however you want). However, we know the cost of some bikes outweigh the payouts we give. So, the short answer is no. The long answer is, if you get an injury we cover then yes, you can use your cash towards your bike.

Do you cover me surfing, trail running, or hiking?

We absolutely do! We love to hear about how our users make their Flip work while doing their favourite activities. Whether it’s a day, a week, a trip or a season - you can get Flip from $7 a day, for the days or weeks you choose. It provides cover for (almost) every activity, even ultra-endurance and extreme adventure sports.

Will you cover me overseas?

Flip Active and Flip Kids can be used in both Australia and New Zealand. We are launching a new product VERY, VERY SOON which will provide cover for other overseas destinations. Drop your email in the box at the bottom of the page to be the first to hear more about this.

I do an event every year, would you cover me at that?

Yes, you can schedule your insurance up to 12 months in advance. You could sort it at the same time you buy your entry ticket and accommodation. Better yet, event organisers can now take out a Group Active policy, which makes cover available to all their participants. That means that instead of just having chunky waivers that no one reads, event organisers can put the health and financial wellbeing at the heart of their event offering so that, if someone gets injured, they can put a claim through us. Some of our other partners who do this are Spartan, Tough Mudder, Thredbo and Noosa Enduro. If you’re an event organiser or you want to put us in touch with one, find out more on our Group Active page.

And that’s a wrap!

Big congratulations to Ashleigh Gentle who claimed a record 10th Noosa Tri title, Hayden Wilde who won his first in a new course best time, and each and every person who got out there and participated. We hope to see you in Noosa next year!

In the meantime, if you’d like to see if accidental injury insurance might suit your next race, explore our website to learn how Flip can give you the freedom to chase your sporting dreams with less worry about injuries.
